Hugo Mentors not only provides outstanding mentors in your area of interest, we also provide the structure you need to get the most our of your experience and complete projects that stand out.
Your mentorship is completely individualized, purpose-driven and tailored to your goals.
Our evidence-based approach is based on the most current psychological and pedagogical research in combination with our team’s own experience overseeing hundreds of successful mentorships and thousands of hours researching and designing transformational trajectories for high school students.
Based on your application, we will match you with a Hugo Mentor who is both an accomplished scholar and has a track record of guiding students in individualized learning.
Your Mentor will work with you to outline, refine and execute an academic project or independent study that is customized to your area of interest.
You will work with your Program Coach to design a study plan that fits your schedule. Meetings are 1:1 and remote at a mutually convenient time.
Starting dates are flexible. Program dates range from at minimum a semester or summer to a multi-year project. Extended programs typically involve more in-depth studies and advanced projects.
In addition to your Hugo Mentor—a top scholar in an academic field—you will also work with your Program Coach, who is an additional resource during the course of your mentorship.
Students can expect to get feedback throughout the process and an evaluation from their mentor at the end of the course of study to help them better understand their strengths and identify additional opportunities in their field of interest.
Hugo’s bespoke approach is designed not just to help students build skills and accomplish their goals, but also to build their confidence and clarity and foster new connections.

Our daughter's Hugo mentorship around Cryptocurrencies really tied together all her interests and experiences: her china tech startup internship, international experience, interest in economics, and STEM focus with business. Her mentor was extremely engaged, and supportive as they studied the topic from multiple angles and she worked to pull her learnings together into a research website to help those who were interested in cryptocurrencies but didn’t know much about them.
My son designed a research project with an NYU professor to align with the work he was doing during the summer on an environmental not for profit. The experience not only gave him a meaningful preview of college-level research methodology, but also enhanced his understanding of the not-for-profit’s mission and the real life application of academic work.
